The name Desolaas may remind you of words like Desolate. Unfortunate. Solace. These words pretty much sum up the atmosphere of the songs of this Groningen based band. If Desolaas were a landscape, you would see vast red sand plains, abandoned houses, barren trees and a thunderstorm just passing away.

Anne van Slageren’s (Dutch) lyrics are about arguing with your lover, loss, transgressive behaviour, social media and the search for meaning of all this. The songs are sometimes dark, usually melancholic but also comforting. Anne en Welmoed sing most songs together.

The band recorded an album with Frans Hagenaars that will be released in 2026 (Vera Groningen). Anne and Welmoed previously played together in Over the Moon, Raw Moon and Solace I guess. Manon Barendsen is a jazz musician and active in various projects. Rense van Slageren is a jazz and pop drummer from Groningen and also active in various projects.
